Melbourne LASIK Surgeon Dr. Rafael Trespalacios

Rafael Trespalacios, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and innovative LASIK surgeon. Dr. Trespalacios, or “Dr. Tres,” as he is referred to by patients, has been selected by respected colleagues in the field of LASIK and cataract surgery as one of the “Best Doctors” in the country. He is one of only a handful of surgeons in the world with surgical outcomes so incredible that they are insurable through VisionLock. As a leading eye surgeon in central Florida, Dr. Tres is familiar with the newest sight-saving technologies and procedures in the area. In addition to performing leading-edge laser eye surgery procedures, Dr. Trespalacios was the first eye surgeon in Florida to provide bilateral Intacs (corneal ring segments), as well as the first to use placenta tissue to reconstruct the ocular surface of a blinded patient in east central Florida. He is also the only provider of implantable contact lenses (ICL), Intacs and iStent (for the treatment of open-angle glaucoma) in Brevard and east Orlando counties. Dr. Tres frequently donates his surgical services to underserved communities throughout central Florida through the “Gift of Sight” program In 2012, Dr. Tres performed an IEK procedure at no cost for this organization. By combining the latest ophthalmologic technology with his strong surgical acumen and caring, compassionate manner, Dr. Trespalacios provides patients with outstanding vision correction results.

Vision Correction at TRES VISION GROUP

Dr. Trespalacios employs advanced technology for customized eye care treatment. TRES VISION GROUP is equipped with the latest wavefront and excimer laser technology to deliver personally tailored vision correction results.

Before starting LASIK surgery, Dr. Trespalacios utilizes wavefront imaging technology to diagnose each eye’s imperfections, including nearly imperceptible refractive errors known as “higher-order aberrations.” The ophthalmologist then uses this diagnostic information to calibrate the excimer laser that he will use during the LASIK procedure to re-contour the curvature of the cornea.

Dr. Trespalacios administers topical anesthetic eye drops to ensure that the patient is comfortable throughout the procedure. To start LASIK surgery, he uses an Intralase laser to create a small flap in the cornea. He carefully pulls back the flap to reveal the corneal tissue below. The ophthalmologist then uses the adjusted excimer laser to re-contour the cornea, remedying the refractive error causing farsightedness, nearsightedness and/or astigmatism. When Dr. Trespalacios is satisfied with the newly contoured cornea, he replaces the corneal flap back in its initial position, where it will naturally re-seal itself to the eye without any need for sutures.

Dr. Trespalacios’s LASIK patients are happy to discover that LASIK surgery is not painful. They generally notice an improvement in vision within one to two days after surgery. Many times, LASIK patients no longer need to depend on prescription eyewear to see clearly after surgery. In addition, about 99 percent of LASIK patients achieve 20/20 vision or better following the procedure.

What Dr. Trespalacios’s Patients Say

“I am an osteopathic physician, board-certified in neuromusculoskeletal medicine and osteopathic manipulative medicine.  I am sharing my visual history and my experience at the TRES VISION GROUP out of respect and gratitude for what Dr. Rafael Trespalacios and his team have done for me.

“My near-sightedness developed at the age of nine. After 30 years of corrective lenses and significant myopia, I decided to do something about it.  I had done research on the various laser options for refractive correction, and I chose the TRES VISION GROUP at the high recommendations of my colleagues and patients.

“I first met the refractive patient coordinator and an optometrist for my initial evaluation and measurements.  They were very thorough, informative, professional, and friendly.  The equipment they utilized was state-of-the-art.  I then had an appointment with Dr. Trespalacios and found him to be very professional, knowledgeable, and capable.  He took the time to go over all my results, we worked together on a plan, and he answered all my questions.  We concluded, based on my corneal thickness and degree of nearsightedness, that I was a perfect candidate for ICLs.  I went home and thoroughly researched ICLs from the company that makes them and the procedure to insert them, all the way to outcome studies.  The more I learned, the more excited I got to have the procedure done.

“The surgery center at the TRES VISION GROUP, the facility itself, and the staff are the best I have come across in my career.  Being in a surgery center as a patient was a brand-new experience for me, and I was treated with respect by friendly, competent staff.  I truly felt I never lost my identity as a person and I was very comfortable before, during, and after the procedure.

“A few hours after my procedure, I could see 20/15 in both eyes with no pain or discomfort.  My vision is sharp and clear for both distance and reading.  I am amazed by the fact that I now have perfect vision without the need for glasses or contacts.  The natural structure of my eye and cornea is basically unaltered, and the procedure I had could at any time be completely reversed.

“In conclusion, I am extremely impressed with Dr. Trespalacios and the TRES VISION GROUP.  I now have perfect vision with no maintenance and I am living my life with no limitations in activities or confidence.”
